Wildlife Tourism – Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh is a absolute haven for wildlife. In its lush forests, the tiger prowls and the spotted deer, the blue-bull and the gaur roam free. The Barasingha has been saved from disappearance and its numbers have multiplied in Kanha National Park.

The sal and bamboo forests of Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Panna, Pench and many other National Parks and Sanctuaries are packed with all kinds of wildlife and many species of birds.
 
KanhaKANHA TIGER RESERVE
Kanha is best known as the habitat of the Tiger. Barasingha is undoubtedly the jewel of Kanha. In the core area of the National Park, human activity is totally prohibited & this is where the elusive Tiger can be seen. The current Tiger population in the park is guesstimated at 127. Banjai and Halon rivers flow through the park, of which Halon is Perennial.

Kanha has about 22 species of mammals. Some of the other inhabitants of this park are spotted deer, sambar, barking deer, black buck, chetal, gaur etc .. More than 300 species of birds inhabit the park.
 
Accessibility:
Jabalpur (about 170 km) is the convenient railhead. Jabalpur & Nagpur (about 270 km) are the nearest airports. Kisli & Mukki are the two entrance points to the reserve. Only Petrol vehicles before sunset are allowed in the reserve. The park is closed from 01 July to 31 Oct in the monsoon season. February to June is the ideal time to visit Kanha. Early morning & late afternoon are the best time for animal viewing. There are two ways of enjoying the Park – by jeep & on elephant back.

Pench Tiger ReserveBANDHAVGARH TIGER RESERVE
Once the personal hunting ground of the Maharaja of Rewa, Bandhavgarh is famous as the original home of the white tiger. Many hills & hillocks dot the area amidst valleys, meadows & marshes. One can also visit the remains of 200 yrs old Bandhavgarh fort & nearby cave shrine. Charanganga river is the prominent river flowing through the park. The population of the tiger is about 56. Other mammals include, Chital, Sambhar, barking deer, chinkara, leopard, wolf, jackal, sloth bear, wild boar, langur, etc .. The reservoir is also rich in birds.
 
Accessibility:
The main entry to the park is through Tala, 35km north of Umaria, which has a railway station. Katni is about 100 km, has better train connectivity. Jabalpur airport is about 170 kms & Khajuraho is about 210 km.

PENCH TIGER RESERVE
Pench is named after the river Pench, located in the southern reaches of the Satpura hill ranges. Though the flow of Pench river stops by December, a number of water pools serve as water holes for the wild animals. There are a few perennial springs and tanks in this tract.

Chital, Samb har, Nigai, Wild Boar & Jackal are commonly seen. Population of the tiger is about 40. Pench boasts of more than 250 species of birds including several migratory ones.
 
Accessibility:
The Pench Tiger Reserve is 12km away from the Khawasa town on NH 7 between Nagpur and Jabalpur. Nagpur is the nearest rail head and airport. Khawasa is just 80 km from Nagpur on NH7. Jabalpur is about 200 km from the park.

PANNA TIGER RESERVE
PannaLocated amidst the Sylvan settings, the park is declared a tiger reserve in 1994. The world famous temple town of Khajuraho is just 25km and a mere half an hour’s drive away. The life line of the park Ken River meanders through the reserve. Ken river offer magnificent sights. Springs are the major water sources available during the month of summer.

Tiger population is about 32. Leopard, Sloth bear, jackle, hyena, langur & wild boar are more common. More than 200 species of birds including a host of migratory birds have been sighted in the birds have been sighted in the park.
 
Accessibility:
Khajauraho, the nearest airport is just 25 km from panna. Satna (70 k m ) is the nearest railhead for those travelling from Delhi, Varanasi and Kolkata; Jhansi (130 km) for those travelling from Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. Madla and Hinouta are the two entry gate to the park. The park is closed between July & September. The best time to visit the park is between December & March.
