| HALEBIDU |
one of the open secrets, Halebidu was flourished in 12th & 13th centauries. The main attractions here are Hoysala Temple & Shantaleswara Temple. Together they took roughly about 100 years to build but are still incomplete.
These temples are set in a pristine lawn & the restoration work done on the temple gives one an impression of impeccability. Nature of carvings done on the walls is so intricate as to resemble carvings done on sandal wood rather than stone.

How to reach: About 4 hours drive from Bangalore, Hassan (30 km) is the nearest
city.

Halebidu is inseparable from Belur, connected through the ages by a common Hoysala heritage & recently by well laid road. Chennakeshava temple in Belur is contemporary to Halebidu temples. In Belur, you could spend hours studying the minute carvings on the exterior walls.
