 Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh was earlier summer capital of the Brirish Raj in India. This popular hill station is often referred as the “Queen of Hills”, located in the north west of Himalaya’s at an altitude of 7000feet.
The City of Shimla, draped in forests of Pine, Rhododendron and oak experiences pleasant summers & cold, snowy winter. City is also famous for Tudorbethan & neo – gothic style of colonial buildings.
The city is named after goddess Shyamala Devi, an incarvation of Hindu goddess Kali.
Location: About 365 km north of Delhi / about 115 kms from Chandigarh.
How to reach:
By Road - About 7 hrs drive from Delhi/ about 3 hrs drive from Chandigarh
By Train – Regular train till Kalka station & hill train from there to Shimla
By flight – Shimla airport to the mall road is an hour drive.
Temperature:
Average temperature during summer is between 14C to 20C & during winter it is between -7C to 10C. Snowfall is generally happens during mid Jan / early Feb.
 Places to See:
Mall- Mall is the main shopping street of Shimla. It also has many clubs, bars & restaurants.
Christ Church – Situated on the Ridge, Chirst Church is one of the oldest churches in North India. It has a majestic appearance & inside it has stained glass windows which represents faith, hope, charity, patience & humanity
Jakhu Hills – Two km from town, at a height of 8000ft, offers beautiful views of Shimla town & snow covered Himalayas. One of the oldest temples in region, dedicated to Lord Hanuman temple is situated on the top of the hill.
State museum- This is the abode to excellent paintings, handicrafts, textiles and stone carvings of Himachal Pradesh.
 Chadwick fall- The sight of the amazing waterfall of Chadwick being surrounded by thick forests and bushes from all around is very exciting.
Summer hill- This hilly path with trees shading the way is ideal for a pleasurable walk.
Narkanda ( about 60 kms from Shimla ) This is an important part of Shimla sightseeing as it gives an enchanting view of the mountain ranges being enveloped in white snow
